Thank you Winnipeg and Rainbow Resource Centre!

Today we launched the North Star Triangle Project to a standing room only group of 18 caring, passionate and committed GLBT Winnipeggers.

I will blog more tomorrow with some of the issues we discussed and the challenges ahead for potential sponsorships.  Here are a couple of photos - and a short video will be posted tomorrow.

Departing on overnight bus for Regina on Saturday at 11:30 pm.  Still looking to connect with people in Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury and London.  Please spread the word!

Zack took this picture of half our group
Winnipeg's own Group of 5 joined us at the meeting
Thanks Chad -- Executive Director at RRC

  1. I am glad you came to Winnipeg. There was a great turn-out.

My hope is that, through your efforts, you will be able to link up the various queer refugee projects in small and large communities across our country, and that you will be able to provide a forum for questions and answers about refugee sponsorship and activism.

My first questions follow. To appy for interim health insurance from CIC, what is needed to register a refugee? What documents are needed? Is the new Canadian required to show up in person? Can the application be completed in advance of the person's arrival?

Is it possible for a charitable non-religious organization to accept
and flow charitable funds for a group of five sponsorship? If so,
what tips might be available as an organization considers this option? What factors should be considered?

Is it possible to apply for some funding from the Vancouver Rainbow Refugee Action group for a group of five that is just starting up? If so, who is the contact person?
